According to the Scofield Reference Bible, in Romans 5:1–11, Scofield
identifies seven results (or fruits) of justification. They are listed as
follows:
- Peace
with God – “Therefore being justified by faith, we
have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). The
believer’s war with God is over; reconciliation has taken place.
- Access
to God – “By whom also we have access by faith into
this grace wherein we stand” (Romans 5:2). Justification gives the
believer direct access into God’s grace and presence.
- Rejoicing
in hope of the glory of God – “…and rejoice in hope of the glory of God”
(Romans 5:2). The believer looks forward with joy to sharing God’s glory.
- Patience
in tribulation – “…we glory in tribulations also: knowing
that tribulation worketh patience” (Romans 5:3). Trials are now seen
as producing endurance, not despair.
- The
love of God shed abroad in the heart – “…because the love
of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto
us” (Romans 5:5). The Holy Spirit makes God’s love a personal reality.
- Salvation
from wrath – “Much more then, being now justified by his
blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him” (Romans 5:9). Justification
guarantees deliverance from God’s coming judgment.
- Joy in
God – “…we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ”
(Romans 5:11). The believer’s highest blessing is joying (rejoicing) in
God Himself.
